One man cut, two others shot in fight in Oberlin
OBERLIN — One man was cut and two others were shot during a fight early Sunday morning at an Oberlin home.
Officers responded to a report of a shooting at 329 N. Main St. at 3:33 a.m.
A number of individuals had been gathered at the home playing video games and dominoes and relaxing, when two men pulled into the driveway, according to Oberlin Police Lt. Mike McCloskey.
“There was argument over gas, the two men apparently wanted a ride to go get gas, those in the residence refused, and it resulted in a verbal fight that then became physical,” McCloskey said. “At some point the suspect pulled a gun and fired.”
The people in the residence knew at least one of the men and identified him, McCloskey said.
The suspect is a relative of one of the victims’ wives, McCloskey said.
Injured were Rodney A. Cannon Sr., 42, of Oberlin, with a laceration to his left eye, and Isaac L. Long, 39, of Oberlin, who was shot in the stomach. Both were taken to Allen Community Hospital in Oberlin and then to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. Cannon was treated and released and Long was in fair condition this afternoon, according to a MetroHealth spokeswoman.
The accused shooter, Andrew Davison, 27, of Elyria, apparently shot himself in the leg, McCloskey said, and he was arrested when he sought treatment at EMH Regional Medical Center in Elyria. He was treated and released from the hospital and was arrested on a count of attempted murder and two counts of aggravated robbery, according to McCloskey. He is now in the Lorain County Jail.
Oberlin police are attempting to locate the other male who was at the scene with the suspect, McCloskey said.
