ELYRIA — The Lorain County Board of Elections today announced that the petitions filed to prompt a recall vote of Elyria Mayor Bill Grade fell short of the required signatures.

Of the 2.629 signatures turned in by members of Stand Up Elyria, only 1,857 were deemed valid, according to a report released today.

The petitions needed to be signed by 2,270 people – which represent 25 percent of the voters that case their ballots in the November 2007 general municipal election.

The Board of Elections found that 772 signatures were invalid for a number of reasons.

  2. Sitting Bull says:

No the problem is that when the people ask people to sign they were not asking if they were a elyria resident , or if they were a registered voter. Just like everything else in Elyria , it was done half @ssed

  3. Matthew says:

well yes and no . but i still think that they need to go out and get the 700 some votes and do it again. we need this man out of office

  4. Loving Life says:

I hope Mayor Grace notices that is still a very large number of people who aren’t happy with him.
On this I have to agree with Sitting Bull. A friend pointed that out to me at the Apple Festival. They only asked if we wanted to sign it BOTH times we were approached.

    Matthew

It isn’t over just yet so Grace shouldn’t celebrate until it is final. The recall committee figured that this would happen, only 772 not valid? Very interesting!

  6. HAHAHAHAHA…..thats what you get when you have a bunch of village idiots in charge of something….

i know its not over yet and i hope that they dont give up on it

  8. Matthew - doubt the Mayor had anything to do with the recall count being low. It always is lower for most recall ballots. A friend of mine signed it at the applefest just for fun - he is from Cleveland and they never asked so he figured - what the heck. Dont know what city he put down - probably put down Elyria knowing him. But this happens all the time.

Not EVERY thing is Graces fault - lol. Its going to rain tonight though and I know for a fact that is his fault.

Word on the street has it, Willy and others had access to copies of the signatures. Wonder what that means?

  10. Tazz says:

Was it that the 772 voters signatures were dropped because they did not registered to vote in 2007? Not Elyria residents or not registered voters? What are the reasons the names are deemed invalid? Inquiring minds want to know!!

  11. Bill,
What difference does it make if the Mayor had a copy of the list? Was there something to hide on the lists? Maybe dead peoples signatures???? Names from tombstones??? Hummm inquiring minds do want to know what the signatures were… Seems to me if you had over a year to locate 25% of the registered voters that didn’t like what the Mayor was doing you could have located many more signature. How about Stand Up Elyria tuck their tail between their legs and runaway not to be heard from again.

Sitting Bull…I have to ask, seriously, after reading alot of your posts, and ending with this one, WHY do you still live in Elyria and subject yourself to all these problems that anger you? Your comment, “Just like everything else in Elyria , it was done half @ssed” Well, your in Elyria, so that makes you and everything you do, the same way!
    Everything includes you!
In my opinion, it will come back that those names were invalid because they either were not registered voters or like country bumpkins “friend”, were liers when they put down the city they live in. What kind of person would knowingly falsify a document like that? And CB calls that person a “friend”??? Wow, yea, real funny.
Mustand Sally…You must be Jesus Christ and perfect, which would give you the right to call the people who did that work idiots. What are you in charge of that you are somehow the expert in how to do things and think you have the right to criticize those others?

    Matthew:
That’s not how it works. They have to do it all again. Not just add valid signatures.

    Sparky:
Like you and Kim are going to do this again. All you had to do is buy the registered voter list from the LCBofE and you could have checked the signatures. ($15) would have saved you this embarassment

    Loving Life:
4,287 voted against the Mayor in 2007. 4.627 in 2003. And now, after almost 2 years of advertising the recall and getting on the TV, Newspaper and radio - and people having all the time in the world to sign (not just one day at a voting place) they got 1,857 signatures. It does not seam as though as many people as you think want him recalled - WHERE ARE THEY?
    Start the excuses.

    Bill:
Word on the street is the believers need to mark their doors with the blood of a lamb tonight. Wonder what that means? LMAO
Conspiracy, conspiracy, conspiracy (throw that up against the wall now and see if it sticks).
Desparate times call for desparate measures. You better fill these blogs with everything you can make up because the recall does not look so good right now.

I have to give Curiousmom and Sparky credit, though. At least they got up off their butt and did something. Be it something I agree with or not it is better than sitting around talking about it. I hope they can put this kind of effort into something positive for the city - not negative towards someone.

These blogs are more entertaining than any TV show, movie, book etc. And it is totally free!

I agree with your statement “I have to give Curiousmom and Sparky credit, though. At least they got up off their butt and did something. Be it something I agree with or not it is better than sitting around talking about it.”

    Ms. Ach and Mr. Bevans:
With that said, any plans to have persons near the voting locations to sign the petition?

  15. chrisdsito says:

    Now that is funny!

  16. Sparky says:

    Smarter Than That

I am not Bevo, I keep telling Sito that but let him think it because he is brain dead, Loving Life ask me along time ago and I told her I wasn’t she believed it, but I guess anyone smarter that Sito is Bevo to him. Now as far as he recall, if by chance it doesn’t happen it is a shame, reason the citizens of Elyria might have voted for the tax knowing Grace would be recalled.
