Browns update: CB Eric Wright OK after he rolls his Mercedes, totaling it

BEREA — Browns cornerback Eric Wright totaled his Mercedes when he rolled it on a wet Cleveland highway early Friday. Hours later, he was back at practice, riding the stationary bike while his teammates prepared for Sunday’s game against Green Bay.

Wright’s car skidded off the road at about 2:10 a.m. at the intersection of Interstate 77 South and Intstate 490 West. He was taken by EMS to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, where he was treated and released.

Coach Eric Mangini met with Wright this morning and sent him for more tests. He returned in time for practice, and Mangini’s hopeful he can play Sunday.

“I’m hopeful he should be OK and ready to play,” Mangini said.

The police report called the conditions “wet” and Wright wasn’t cited. Police Lt. Thomas Stacho said there was no evidence of drugs or alcohol.

“He was in an accident, it was wet, and there’s really nothing else to it,” Mangini said.

Mangini also said all but one player — defensive end Corey Williams — had returned from the flu. Twelve players missed Wednesday and 10 missed Thursday.

“Hopefully we are over the hump,” Mangini said.

Pro Bowl nose tackle Shaun Rogers and linebacker Kamerion Wimbley, who missed the 27-14 loss to Pittsburgh last Sunday, returned Thursday. They were joined Friday by center Alex Mack, safety Brodney Pool, tight end Robert Royal, fullback Lawrence Vickers, running back Jerome Harrison, defensive back Anthony Madison, receiver Chansi Stuckey, linebacker Jason Trusnik and practice squad defensive end Brian Schaefering.

Mangini said Thursday that two of the cases were confirmed as Influenza A, of which H1N1 is a strain. He said he hadn’t received the test results from the other 10 players.
