WAKEMAN TWP. — Two Huron County women were LifeFlighted from the scene of a car-semi accident about 11:30 this morning in Wakeman Township.

The women were the driver and passenger of a eastbound Honda Accord that drifted left of center on state Route 20 just east of Wakeman and struck the semi, which was westbound, according to Sgt. James Faunda of the State Highway Patrol. The semi attempted to take evasive action, but the car hit the side of the trailer, sustaining severe damage.

The women were flown to St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo. The driver had life-threatening injuries and the passenger had severe but non-life-threatening injuries, Faunda said. The driver of the semi, a man from Cuyahoga County, refused treatment.

Wakeman Fire Chief Jim Tansey said firefighters used the Jaws of Life to remove the women from the car.

Route 20 was shut down for at least an hour, and traffic was backed up after that.

The accident remains under investigation.

Wakeman police also assisted at the scene.

    Country Bumpkin:

I talked to her (driver) nephew lastnite around 9:00 and she was STILL in surgery. Listed as Stable but in Critical Condition. I will not give details for privacy reasons (I hope you understand).

FYI: Seems to be some contradiction as to what CT said caused accident, investigation is NOT complete.

  8. Thankyou Justbec - let her family know a lot of us have her in our thoughts and prayers. (as well as the passenger).

Don’t even bother yourself with some of the drivel that is posted on these comment sections - they do it to get a rise out of others. They do not have all the facts but boy do they like to act like they do and pass judgement.

Seems like too much faith is being put in the truck driver’s testimony. We know how truckers drive like they own the road. He’s probably just doing CYA. I hope the two women are able to recover from his potential screwup.

Wow, it amazes me that for the simple fact that he was driving a semi truck, you seem to think it was his fault….For your information Mr I think i know everything, I happen to know the driver of the semi, as well as the full story about what happened…..To put it bluntly, little old ladies that cant see over the steering wheel, or pay attention when they are operating a vehicle, should have their license’s revoked. Luckily the driver is pretty damn smart and sped up to get across the BRIDGE he was on to avoid hitting their car head on and instantly killing both people. If you had read other articles you would clearly see that from all parties involved, they knew it was the little old ladys fault. The driver of the semi isVERY cautious when it comes to driving, and doesnt take on the attitude that he owns the road due to the size of his vehicle. He was extremely shook up upon returning back to the shop. Moral of the story: READ BEFORE YOU SPEAK MR. SMITH

  12. hey everybody. i just wanted to let you know that i am the driver of the semi that the lady hit. it angers me that everybody thinks that the truck driver is always at fault. well i have news for you idiots that think that! i was not at fault. this lady vered left of center and was comming right at me on my side of the road. i tried to get out of the way but she still hit me.and more than likely if she would have missed me she would have hit the driver behind me head on. i dont know to this day why she went left of center but it was clearly her fault and i was never charged with anything and have been cleared of all wrong donig. but i understand that a person like you with a third grade education cant read a story and get it right. so like kim says, read before you speak.!

Kim, even though you claim to “know everything” in your post above, you do not. It is a fact that all sides have not been heard in this case. I was pointing out this simple fact out in my post above and pointing out that we should not take the trucker at face value until ALL sides are heard. So, follow your own advice please and wise up.
