Teens involved in shootings across Lorain

LORAIN — Shots rang out in three Lorain neighborhoods Sunday night and early Monday morning, and two Lorain teenagers ended up in the hospital with minor gunshot injuries from one of those shootings.

The two injured were shot during the same incident just after midnight. One was on the porch of a residence in the 800 block of West 17th Street while the other victim told police he was walking in the area.

Jamal Stafford, 19, and Romando Smith, 18, were both shot when the front and backseat passengers of a vehicle, alternately described by witnesses as purple or dark blue, opened fire on a small group of teenagers sitting on the front porch of 813 W. 17th St., near Long Avenue.

Smith told police he was walking in the area when he was shot.

Stafford was shot in the lower leg and Smith had several small shotgun pellets in his right hand, according to a police report.

Police are also investigating a report of shots fired near West Ninth Street and Long Avenue around 8:45 p.m. Sunday, as well as a second shooting less than an hour later.

Witnesses said two young black men were shooting at each other on West Ninth Street — one from behind a parked vehicle and the other from the street near Long Avenue.

Police were unable to find the suspects or shell casings in the area. There were no reports of injuries or property damage in connection with this shooting.

Sunday’s second shooting occurred after 9 p.m. near West 26th Street and Lexington Avenue.

One of the victims, age not given, said he and friends were walking home from a party on Apple Avenue after 9 p.m. and when they passed 322 W. 26th St., several males yelled at them, and the two groups exchanged words, according to a police report.

One of the men at the West 26th Street residence fired several shots and yelled “peace money bag” at the group on the street, one victim told police.

He also told police he is friends with the man who fired the gun. He couldn’t give police a physical description or any other information about the shooting.

There were no reports of injuries or property damage in either shooting Sunday night. All three shootings remain under investigation.
