Elyria dentist once again offering candy buyback
ELYRIA — Once again this Halloween, little ghosts and goblins will be able to turn mounds of candy into dollar bills thanks to Elyria dentist Scott Nagy.
Nagy and his staff will pay $1 for every pound of candy — up to $5 for each child — at a festive get-together from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Nov. 6 at their offices at the corner of Gulf Road and Ohio Street.
Scenes from candy buyback 2007:
They hope to collect 1,000 pounds of candy to be sent off to U.S. troops abroad who might be craving a Sugar Daddy or Mars bar, said Heather Searight, whose duties at the office include marketing.
This is the third year Nagy has paid cash for candy in hopes of publicizing good dental practices and saving a few children from cavities.
The first year in 2007, some 300 pounds were collected. Last year, children turned in more than 600 pounds.
The worship band from Rock Point Church will be playing at this year’s candy buyback, which will be combined with customer appreciation day, Searight said.
Nagy’s young daughter, Danielle, will be picking the winning ticket in a $1,000 cash giveaway involving patrons of the dental clinic who filled out entry forms during recent visits.
Hopefully, everyone will have fun and participants are encouraged to wear their costumes one last time, Searight said.
“We’re also going to have a costume contest for the kids with prizes,” she said.
