The group trying to recall Elyria Mayor Bill Grace says it has turned in enough signatures to put the mayor’s status to a vote.
Stand Up Elyria, the political action committee framed to run the recall effort, turned in 2,630 signatures nearly two weeks ago, but 772 were ruled invalid by the Lorain County Board of Elections.
Craig Bevan, co-founder of Stand Up Elyria, turned in 902 new signatures today. He needs 413 to put a recall on the ballot.
Hear Bevan explain the effort in his own words:

Bevan said Stand Up Elyria compared this batch of signatures to voter rolls, and the majority matched.
Bevan said Stand Up Elyria was “very conservative in the things that we looked at” and Stand Up Elyria is confident “we have way more than enough” signatures.
Bevan said he has seen a great outpouring of support.
“It was incredible the number of people that stepped up and asked to help, realizing the work that was put into it and their feelings about making this happen,” Bevan said.
If at least 413 of the new signatures are ruled valid, Grace will have five days to step down, and, if he doesn’t, the recall must be put to a vote in 30 to 45 days, according to Bevan.
