Dozens of people lined up today at Midway Mall to get a free H1N1 flu shot.

The flu shot clinic, run by the Elyria Health Department, utilized the malls empty storefronts to set up shot. People were lined up before the clinic started has seen a steady stream of people all day, according to Health Commissioner Kathy Boylan.

People reported waiting about an hour and a half for their shot, but the wait wasn’t bad because they were indoors in the mall, Boylan said.

Today’s clinic runs through 6 p.m.

Right now, the shot is being given to those in the initial priority groups: pregnant women, people who live with or care for infants younger than 6 months, workers in health care and emergency services who provide direct patient care; young people up to 24 years old and people ages 25 to 64 with chronic health disorders or compromised immune systems.

Examples of those with chronic illnesses needing the vaccine are those with chronic asthma, multiple sclerosis or muscular dystrophy, Boylan said.
