Group formed to oppose Mayor Grace recall

A bi-partisan committee is being formed to defeat any possible recall of Mayor Bill Grace should the effort move to the point of a recall election.

Headed by state Rep. Matt Lundy, D-Elyria, and former Republican Councilman Jack Baird, the Yes Elyria Committee will soon begin an aggressive campaign to ensure voters keep Grace as mayor until the end of his term.

“We are very concerned people may take this recall lightly and believe this is just a vocal group that can’t pull it off,” Lundy said. “But this should be taken very seriously.”

While both acknowledge that supporters of the recall are within their right to pursue the removal of Grace, Baird said the move is “not well thought out and an extreme overreaction.”

“If they have a problem with the mayor, the appropriate process is to voice their concerns at the polls at the next election,” he said.

The recall is being led by residents Kim Ach and Craig Bevan, co-founders of Stand Up Elyria. The group is seeking the removal of Grace because they believe he has wastefully spent taxpayer dollars.
