ELYRIA - A deliveryman was robbed of $400 at gunpoint Thursday evening while delivering food to the Midview Crossing apartments in the 1800 block of Middle Ave.

China Wok took a food order around 6:15 p.m. for an apartment in M building, but when the 38-year-old deliveryman arrived, he was confronted by three men wearing black coats and stocking caps, police said.

Deliveryman Ai Qiu Lin told police one of the males pointed a black handgun at him and demanded his money.

Lin gave the robbers $400 and ran from the area.

The deliveryman told security at the front gate what had happened. The guard at the complex told police he spotted a 17-year-old girl, often mistaken for a male because of her short hair, wearing a black coat and black stocking cap just after the incident near M building.

The security guard told police the girl and an unknown male jumped the fence and ran away when they spotted him.

Why in the world would you have a delivery guy carry $400, especially delivering to that area??

Well he starts out his delivery “circle” with money for change and if he makes say 4-5 deliveries before this one he may have a bit of money on him.

Why do we question the behavior of the victim when something like this happens? He did nothing inappropriate.

Wasn’t questioning the actions of the driver, was questioning actions of his superiors. Times are changing, world is getting worse, policies need to change with it I guess is my point. Maybe not have that much cash on the driver. If 4-5 deliveries were made and that amount of cash is on them, have them leave all but $20-$40 in the car (just don’t have it on them) or have a limit on how many deliveries can be taken care of at one time. If a known crime area is place for delivery, such as this area with a guard shack, like Tammy said, that would be the point of delivery. Society needs to put human life ahead of the almighty $$.

I am a pizza deliveryman … there is no reason a driver should carry that much cash. He should be making drops (turning in money to the store manager) after every run.

But secondly, the details of this story should not be printed in the news. It gives criminals false hope. How many pizza guys will be robbed in the next week, with the robber thinking they will get $400 and they will only get $20-40.

Third, “Midview Crossings” aka South Park Apts is already on our list, and has been for over 5 years. We will not deliver there.
