First round of Chronicle charity auctions raises $170

The first round of online auctions to support The Chronicle’s Not-Forgotten Box has raised $170 to buy toys to help Lorain County children have a happier holiday season.

Chronicle reader Adam Shields donated the Star Wars figurine collection he spent decades collecting to the Not-Forgotten Box last Christmas (read more about Adam here), and Chronicle Managing Editor Julie Wallace decided — with Shields’ OK — to put his collection on eBay and use the auctions’ proceeds to buy even more toys. (Watch Shields and The Chronicle on WEWS News Channel 5.)

Twenty auctions ended overnight, and all 20 items listed sold, for a total of $170.

The highest priced item — the Darth Maul Sith Speeder — sold for $15.50.

A second round of 15 auctions ends overnight tonight, and a third round ends Thursday afternoon. Click here to check out the auctions and get your bids in. Chronicle News Editor and eBay auctioneer Ben Nagy said he will be posting more auctions Wednesday.

Getting tons of attention is a Sith Lords and Darth Vader box set (new in box, of course) that was already up to $20.20 with 13 hours remaining. Bidding hovered around $10 for several other items, and many are still available for the minimum bid of 99 cents.

Chronicle readers can save because shipping will be waived for anyone who is willing to pick up their auction purchases.

All auction proceeds go to buy toys for the Not-Forgotten Box, which is sponsored by The Chronicle-Telegram and the Elyria Salvation Army.
