November ballot results certified

LORAIN —The Nov. 3 election may be over, but the Lorain County Board of Elections still has work to do.

The results of the election were certified Tuesday afternoon at a brief meeting at the board’s headquarters in Sheffield Township.

Only one election is going to a recount. The Village Council election in Sheffield had five candidates vying for the four open seats. The fourth- and fifth-place finishers — Edward Dugan and Leo Sheets — finished 0.3 percent apart in the voting, close enough to call for a recount, which is scheduled for Dec. 7.

The board is also busy handling the recall vote for Elyria Mayor Bill Grace. Voters can cast their ballot early at the board’s headquarters at 1985 North Ridge Road. As of 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, 207 people had shown up to vote in person and 60 votes had come in by mail.

Voter turnout for the November ballot was as high as 45 percent in some areas, elections board Jose Candelario said. The interest in Issues 2 and 3 were cited as a driving force behind the turnout, but Oberlin surprised board officials with just a 27 percent turnout.

Official election results can be found at the board’s Web site — www.loraincountyelections.com.
