Vermilion man charged after bar fight in Lorain

LORAIN — A Vermilion man is facing several charges after an incident outside Gil’s International Lounge in Lorain early Saturday morning.
Lowell Holbrook, 62, was charged with assault, resisting arrest, intimidation of a public servant, obstructing official business, aggravated menacing, disorderly conduct persisting, disorderly conduct by intoxication and ethnic intimidation.
According to the report from Lorain police, they were dispatched to the bar, in the 1800 block of E. 28th St., at 2:04 a.m. in regards to a fight outside the bar. When police arrived, they reported seeing Holbrook standing in front of the bar yelling racial slurs and profanities at bar patrons and that he appeared to be drunk. While police attempted to arrest Holbrook, they reported that he was combative and refused to cooperate. During the struggle, Holbrook fell, striking his head on a car parked next to the police car.
When LifeCare arrived, police report that Holbrook threatened the officers. LifeCare reported to police that Holbrook, who had been restrained by the legs in the ambulance, continued to threaten police.
Witnesses told police that Holbrook had been yelling racial slurs inside the bar at a young group of patrons and was escorted out of the bar. When the group Holbrook allegedly targeted tried to leave as well, witnesses reported, Holbrook blocked their path and threatened them. A fight ensued, with the bar bouncer reportedly getting punched in the face and shoulder. Witnesses told police Holbrook was pushed away during the fight and fell against a porch light, causing a cut above his left eye.
