ELYRIA — Elyria Schools will host an informational meeting with parents at 7 p.m. Thursday in the high school auditorium after a high school student was diagnosed with tuberculosis.
School officials said Wednesday that the student is being treated and is recovering well at home.
But, as a precaution, students and staff of Elyria High were advised by the Lorain County Tuberculosis Clinic to have a skin test as there may have been exposure. Health professionals will administer the tests for free at the school.
The staff was tested Wednesday, and the students will be tested Monday and Tuesday, pending parents’ permission.
Pulmonary tuberculosis is caused by an airborne bacteria. It is treatable, curable and preventable. For those with questions or concerns, contact MaryAnn Manning, a nurse at the county Tuberculosis Clinic, at (440) 322-8818.
