‘Star Wars’ auctions done, drop-off days ahead

ELYRIA — The last of the donated “Star Wars” toys have been wrapped, boxed and shipped on their way to their new owners.

After weeks of hosting the first-ever toy auction to benefit the Not-Forgotten Box via eBay, The Chronicle-Telegram has raised roughly $700 that will be used to purchase new toys for Elyria children.

Lifelong “Star Wars” collector Adam Shields of Lorain donated his massive collection to The Chronicle’s Not-Forgotten Box toy drive, and The Chronicle auctioned off his collection to buy more toys to donate to the Salvation Army.

The annual holiday toy drive has been a staple of The Chronicle-Telegram since 1958, and, each year the need for toys grows greater. This year, more than 925 families are signed up to receive holiday help and the Elyria Salvation Army needs 8,000 toys. As of Friday, 2.928 toys had been donated by families, businesses and community organizations.

If you want to donate, but haven’t, there still is time. Donations will be accepted until Dec. 19, and anyone wishing to donate today can do so by visiting The Chronicle from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., where a crew will be on hand to allow for drive-through donations.

Also, the same set up will be done from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 19, too.

Cash donations also will be accepted.
