Man reportedly stole $1,800 worth of merchandise from stores
ELYRIA — A Lorain man is facing charges after being arrested for shoplifting more than $1,800 worth of merchandise from the Wal-Mart at Chestnut Commons and Macy’s at Midway Mall, according to an Elyria police report.
Richard Brown Jr., 45 — who has aliases of Laquan Beckman, Quan Brown, Richard Laquan, Richard Lequan, Richard Qwan and a nickname of New York — was arrested at 9:55 a.m. Saturday by Elyria police, the report said. He was being held Sunday night at the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office on a $3,500 bond.
Elyria police officers were called to Wal-Mart for a suspected shoplifter leaving the store. They spotted Brown, who matched the description given police, at the Verizon building walking toward Drug Mart and holding a plastic tote, the report said. The officers asked to see what was in the tote, and discovered more than 40 new video games with Wal-Mart price stickers on them. Brown reportedly told police he was holding them for a friend.
Upon searching Brown after placing him in custody, police reported finding a red box containing a silver tennis bracelet from Macy’s valued at $400 in Brown’s left rear pants pocket. The video games and plastic tote were valued at $1,414.68.
