Teen burglars arrested after leaving a trail of loot

VERMILION — Four teenagers were arrested over the weekend after they reportedly broke into the Vermilion home of an elderly World War II veteran who is staying in the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky and stole about $2,400 worth of items.

Police were called to the area of Woodside Road and Elyria Drive about 10:20 p.m. Saturday after a neighbor spotted juveniles running through a backyard and throwing something at the back of a home and later saw the home’s back window had been broken out.

Police arrived on the scene to find a bedroom window had been broken out and entry had been made to the home, which had been ransacked.

Police found jewelry and coins taken from the house in the backyard and followed the trail of dropped items a street away to Lorain Drive and up the front walkway of a home.

Police searched the home, finding approximately $2,400 worth of stolen property, and arrested four juveniles that were in the home.

The four, whose ages range from 14 to 17, were taken to the Lorain County Detention Home and face charges of breaking and entering, criminal mischief and obstructing official business.

The stolen property was returned to a relative of the homeowner.
