Located at 930 Lowell St. in Elyria, the Lowell Street CafĂ© is a family-style restaurant in the truest sense of the word. The entire Patouhas family works in the eatery - owners Nick and Dawn Patouhas of Carlisle Township; Nick’s father and mother, Theodore and Argena. Even Nick and Dawn Patouhas’s 12-year-old son, Teddy, comes to help out occasionally.

The restaurant business is nothing new to the Patouhas family. Retired patriarch Theodore Patouhas spent a career opening and managing restaurants for Holiday Inn. Before opening the Lowell Street Cafe, Nick Patouhas owned and operated another local restaurant for 17 years.
Convinced that the city’s west side is full of potential, Patouhas decided to buy the former Kentucky Fried Chicken building 3 years ago and renovated it to provide the area with a much-needed family-style restaurant, he said.

“There are a lot of small businesses in this area and new housing,” he said. “Business has been very good over the past several years. We’re very excited to be celebrating our 3rd anniversary.”
The restaurant offers a variety of sandwiches, salads, breakfast dishes and stick-to-your-rib specials, such as Swiss steak and stuffed pork chops. Call-ahead carryout service also is available.
