SHEFFIELD — A Sheffield home sustained heavy smoke damage from a kitchen fire Tuesday evening.

Firefighters from Sheffield, Sheffield Lake, Sheffield Township and Avon responded to the fire at 5:16 p.m. in the 5000 block of Fitch Drive. The fire was under control at 5:34, the Sheffield Township Fire Department reported.

No one was home at the time of the fire, which was contained to the kitchen of the two-story colonial. The heavy smoke damage, however, has made the home uninhabitable.

Damage is estimated at $50,000 to $100,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
