Lorain files to tear down more structures

LORAIN – The city moved Friday to get permission to demolish six more properties.

Papers were filed Friday in Lorain County Common Pleas Court seeking a declaratory judgment – the declaration of a public nuisance – to allow the city to tear down structures on the properties and seek monetary damages.

The properties are 703 W. 22nd St., 856-862 North Central Drive, 5300 Gargasz Drive, 311 W. 14th St., 2921-2923 Cromwell Drive, 415 W. 17th St. and 923 E. 35th St.

Lorain received $3 million through the Neighborhood Stabilization Program to demolish or rehab blighted homes. At least 14 homes so far have been purchased through the program. Demolition on those homes began Jan. 11.
