Many unaware of Lorain snow ban
LORAIN — An emergency snow ban on street parking was issued over the weekend, but not before some residents got into trouble for ignoring it, Police Chief Cel Rivera said Sunday night.
The emergency snow ban was in effect from noon Saturday through 3 p.m. Sunday so city street crews could clear the 9 inches of snow that fell overnight Friday.
Rivera said police towed five vehicles, gave “some tickets” and issued “a lot of warnings” to residents to get their cars out of the street. Mostly the officers were busy helping residents, Rivera said.
“We put all the guys in SUVs and they spent most of their time helping people move their vehicles off the streets,” Rivera said. “We were mostly tied up with transports and helping people dig their vehicles out and get them off the roads.”
Officers indicated many residents didn’t know the snow parking ban had been issued — a problem that will be looked at by city officials, Rivera said.
Another problem included missing signs on several streets where an automatic parking ban goes into effect after two inches of snow falls, Rivera said, adding that at least one officer told him residents on those streets were unaware of the automatic ban because of “signage problems.”
