Road closed after truck hits pole
LORAIN — Police expect to charge a Lorain man with failure to control and leaving the scene of an accident after he took down a utility pole and shut down East Erie Avenue on Sunday in Lorain.
Police said Scott Wicker was westbound on East Erie in a white Chevrolet pickup truck when he struck the pole just east of Euclid Avenue about 5:20 p.m.
They arrested him at his home about a mile away on South Jefferson Street after receiving a report of a reckless operator on that street and said it was possible he struck something else.
Police said Wicker told them he ran into a snowbank and then struck the pole. The pole snapped, and live wires covered the street.
Ohio Edison was on the scene a little before 6 p.m., and it was unclear how long the street would be closed.
Police said alcohol may have been a factor in the accident.
