CLEVELAND HEIGHTS — The family of an Ohio woman who died after she was found bleeding and collapsed in her driveway with severe dog bites says their pet Rottweiler tried to rescue her.
Family members say 63-year-old Carolyn Baker of Cleveland Heights probably died of a heart attack or her third stroke and the dog tried to pull her to safety by the shoulder. The coroner hasn’t ruled on the death.
Baker’s husband found her collapsed outside the family’s home before dawn Sunday. She apparently had gone to bring the dog into the house.
The dog, Zeus, was taken to a kennel pending the results of the autopsy. The family wants the dog back and says the pet has been wrongly portrayed as aggressive and dangerous.

The way in which the media jumped on this as a brutal dog attack is upsetting. It is very upsetting that the major news station reported this before knowing all of the facts. It was reported as some type of vicious attack, when in fact this poor woman had an extensive history of medical problems. The woman’s wounds were not life threatening. The dog was a caring animal that looked over this woman. By all reports so far, it looks as if the animal was trying to drag this woman into the house. The wounds on her shoulders appeared to be from the animal attempting to drag her up the wooden stairs to the front door.
What ever the situation, I hope the authorities take a closer look into the situation before desiding the fate of this animal.
I pray for closure for this family. I hope it all works itself out.
