Woman’s estate sues motorcycle operator’s estate for wrongful death
ELYRIA — The estate of a woman killed in a motorcycle crash in September 2009 is suing the estate of the motorcycle driver, who also was killed.
Virginia Roman of Polk, the administrator of the estate of Shelia Regal, filed a wrongful death lawsuit Tuesday in county Common Pleas Court against James D. Williamson of Akron and Michael P. Williamson of Elyria, administrators of the estate of James Williamson.
The lawsuit stems from a Sept. 12 crash that killed Regal, 36, and James Williamson, 52, both of Wellington.
Regal was a passenger on Williamson’s motorcycle when, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol, Williamson attempted to pass a pickup while northbound on state Route 511 in Rochester Township.
The motorcycle collided with a Chevrolet Camaro driven by Kevin Howard, 19, of Collins. Regal and Williamson were thrown over the Camaro by the impact and pronounced dead at the scene, according to troopers.
The lawsuit alleges Williamson was negligent in how he drove the motorcycle, and that Regal could have earned another $750,000 in her lifetime. The lawsuit also is seeking compensation for loss of companionship for Regal’s family including her three children, her father, two sisters and four brothers.
