INDIANAPOLIS — The first question asked of Cincinnati Bengals coach Marvin Lewis on Friday at the NFL scouting combine was about linebacker Rey Maualuga, who is expected to check into the Betty Ford Clinic after pleading guilty to drunk driving.
“Obviously we’re disappointed in what occurred,” Lewis said. “I think Rey has really taken some dramatic steps in order to fix and deal with this kind of behavior. I don’t anticipate it being an issue. He knows the situation he’s put himself in, his career and football team, the organization and the city. It’s unfortunate to try to be doing the right thing, yet not make really good decisions at all.”
The first part of Friday’s combine interviews was reserved for coaches and general managers. It’s expected to get more interesting soon, with the quarterbacks, receivers and running backs all scheduled to make stops in the media room. That means Tim Tebow, Sam Bradford, Jimmy Clausen, just to name a few.
