Elections board sets hearing on Ramos residency

LORAIN — The Lorain County Board of Elections will have a hearing March 11 over the disputed residency of Daniel Ramos, a candidate for the 56th District Ohio House seat.

Jose Candelario, who also is running in the Democratic primary for the seat, filed a complaint with the board Monday questioning whether Ramos meets the residency requirement because until December, Ramos worked in Columbus for Ohio House Speaker Armand Budish. The board set the hearing at Tuesday’s meeting.

Ramos said he only kept a room at a friend’s apartment in Columbus and maintained that his address is his parents’ home in Lorain, saying he paid taxes in Lorain.

The hearing is set for 4 p.m. March 11 at the Board of Elections at 1985 North Ridge Road E. in Lorain.

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, the board approved some moving of voting sites around the county. Avon District 1-A’s polling site will move from the Avon Branch Library to the United Methodist Church. With Holy Trinity Church in Lorain closed, districts 3-D and 5-B had to find new polling sites. Residents of District 3-D will vote at Wilson School. District 5-B’s new polling site is Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church.

Oberlin’s District 6 polling site moves from the Oberlin Public Library to the House of Zion.

Because Huntington’s Grange Hall does not meet Americans with Disabilities Act requirements, the polling site has been moved to the United Church of Huntington.
