Girls basketball: Three earn All-Ohio special mention
Two seniors and a junior highlighted the area selections to The Associated Press Division III and IV All-Ohio girls basketball teams announced Tuesday.
Elyria Catholic’s Emily Taylor, the junior, and Columbia’s Emily Nagle were named special mention in Division III, while Lake Ridge’s Mary Shimko was named special mention in Division IV.
The selections were based on the recommendations of a state media panel.
Taylor, a 5-foot-5 point guard, averaged 14 points, 5.7 assists, 5.6 rebounds and 3.5 steals as she helped the Panthers win the first girls district basketball championship in school history. The Panthers finished their season Saturday with a 21-5 record after losing to Smithville in a regional final.
Nagle, a 5-7 guard, averaged 19.2 points, 7.3 rebounds and 4.9 steals per game for the Raiders, who went 17-6 and won the Patriot Athletic Conference Stripes Division title.
Shimko, another 5-7 guard, averaged 14 points, 2.5 assists and two steals a game.
Juniors Ashley Schuster of Elyria Catholic and Taylor Ratliff of Columbia and Wellington senior Katie Stumphauzer were named to the honorable mention list for Division III.
Regina senior Tay’ler Mingo was named Player of the Year for Division III, while Shicole Watts of Canal Winchester Harvest Prep and Hilary Weaver of Berlin Hiland were named Co-Players of the Year for Division IV.
