NORTH RIDGEVILLE — For the second time in a week, firefighters responded to suspicious fires in a field house and concession stand near the soccer field at North Ridgeville High School, according to a spokesman for the fire department.
Assistant Fire Chief Scott Bement said he was called at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday to the concession stand and storage building off Bainbridge Road by school maintenance personnel, who found the remains of a trash fire.
The fire burned itself out and caused about $5,000 damage, Bement said. That fire occurred after a break-in, but exactly when is unknown because it was extinguished when the school employees found the damage, he said.
The same building burned again on Wednesday night, Bement said.
Neighbors on Pitts Boulevard reported a bigger fire in the storage building at 9:40 p.m. Wednesday.
Three fire trucks and 10 firefighters from North Ridgeville and North Olmsted put out the fire before it damaged vehicles inside, including a tractor stored in the building, Bement said.
It took about 20 minutes to extinguish Wednesday’s fire, which caused $20,000 damage to the structure and $10,000 to its contents, Bement said.
Two refrigerators, a microwave, shelving and boxes of supplies in the concession area were destroyed. There was damage to soccer equipment and prom decorations, he said. Bement, the department’s fire prevention officer and fire investigator, said both fires are believed to have been deliberately set.
