Second fire in 10 days at Lorain home ‘definitely intentionally set’

LORAIN — A fire overnight at a West 15th Street duplex was “definitely intentionally set,” according to the Lorain Fire Department.

The home, 327 West 15th, was damaged in a previous fire a little over a week ago, and no one was staying there, according to Lorain Fire Capt. Jeff Fenn.

The call came in at 11:15 p.m. Sunday, and a first-floor bedroom was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.

A first-floor door had been forced open, leading Fenn to say the fire was “definitely suspicious in nature, definitely intentionally set.”

Fenn did not know how the fire was started, but said the Fire Department’s Fire Prevention Bureau is at the home this morning investigating.

A report of the fire lists damage from the most recent fire at $5,000. Damage from the previous fire, which occurred in the early morning of March 12, was $41,000, Assistant Chief Gary Burls said at the time.
