Police drop drug charges in Jesse Crum Jr. case

AMHERST — Amherst police dropped drug charges Tuesday against an Amherst couple in whose home 3-year-old Jesse Crum Jr. lived before he suffered fatal head injuries earlier this month.

In a news release, the Police Department reported that it has asked the city prosecutor’s office to dismiss all charges, with the right to refile, against Dallas and Therese Jones.

The Joneses were arrested March 12 on possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia charges when police were called by Lorain County Children Services following Jesse’s injuries and discovered more than a dozen marijuana plants.

The boy, who lived in the home with his mother, Alyson Sweany, and the Joneses’ son, Peter, died March 17 after being removed from life support at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.

Autopsy results from the Cuyahoga County coroner’s office are pending.

No charges have been filed in connection with Jesse’s death.

“After reviewing several aspects of the ongoing investigation, including collected evidence, lab reports, interviews and state statutes, the Police Department, at this time, felt it was best to dismiss these charges until the investigation is complete,” the release from Amherst police said.
