Elyria defeats Midview 2-0

Seventh inning update:

With runners at second and first, a pop up ended Midview’s chances of knocking off neighbor Elyria, which won 2-0.

Sixth inning update:

Midview’s Ann Turner lead off the inning with a single, but was stranded when Kristen Boros got the next three out. Elyria’s Melanie Woodard, back in action after having a cast removed from her wrist just a few days ago, hit a double, but also was stranded.

Fifth inning update:

Kristen Boros  retires Midview one, two, three. For Elyria, Cynthia Woodard reaches on an error, steals second and then scores Elyria’s second run when Ashlee Stolarski hits a single.

Fourth inning update:

Elyria sophomore Darien Ward hit a homerun over the left field fence to give Elyria a 1-0 lead.

Third inning update:

Grace Turner singled in the third for Midview, collecting her second hit of the game, but Midview didn’t score. For Elyria, Ashlee Stolarski doubled with a hit to left center, collecting Elyria’s only hit of the game, but the inning ended with her stranded.

Second inning update:

It went fast — both pitchers sat down the other side one, two, three. Boros had two strikeouts for Elyria. The game remains scoreless.

EARLIER:

Despite a dicey start, Midview held it together and kept Elyria scoreless despite issuing two walks and making an error in the first inning to load the bases. But Elyria couldn’t capitalize and score — leaving the game scoreless after the first inning.

As expected, the pitchers are Kristen Boros for Elyria, and Syndey Mencke for Midview.
