Quick hits from Browns minicamp

BEREA — The Browns concluded mandatory minicamp Saturday morning with a practice in the humidity. Much of the two hours was spent working on end-of-game situations, but there was enough action for a few observations.

** Rookie quarterback Colt McCoy got his first snaps with the first team, leading a 2:00-minute drill against the No. 1 defense. McCoy completed four short passes and picked up a first down before the drive stalled.

** Quarterback Brett Ratliff led the second team and scored a touchdown on a nice catch by tight end Evan Moore. The 2-point conversion to tie was knocked down by Gerard Lawson, who had given up the touchdown.

** Rookie safeties T.J. Ward and Larry Asante didn’t practice with leg issues. Cornerback Eric Wright (leg) returned to practice.

** Running back Peyton Hillis (flu) rejoined the team but didn’t practice.

** Phil Dawson made field goals from 55 yards and 39 yards in last-second situations. Shaun Suisham was about 10 yards short from 55 yards and connected from 37 yards.

** Rookie free-agent receiver Johnathan Haggerty made another noteworthy play, dragging his feet on the sideline of the end zone to come up with a pass from Seneca Wallace.

** Defensive end Brian Schaefering threw a pass from the 50-yard line through the narrow uprights — with plenty of room to spare — to save the players from afternoon meetings.
