Wood placed on disabled list

CLEVELAND – Closer Kerry Wood was placed on the 15-day disabled list Saturday with a blister on his right index finger.

Right-hander Jensen Lewis was recalled from Triple-A Columbus to fill Wood’s roster spot.

Wood hasn’t pitched since taking the loss last Sunday in Tampa Bay’s 6-5 walk-off win in 10 innings. The right-hander is 1-4 with a 6.30 ERA and eight saves in 23 appearances.

It is his second trip to the injured list this season after beginning the year on the DL with a strained right lat muscle.

Right-hander Chris Perez is expected to assume the closer duties.

Lewis is in his third stint with the Indians, going 2-2 with a 3.86 ERA in 20 games. He is 2-0 with a 2.30 ERA in 12 games at Columbus.
