Delivery driver robbed at gunpoint of $160, pizzas and phone

ELYRIA — A Marco’s Pizza delivery driver was robbed at gunpoint overnight as he tried to make a delivery, according to an Elyria police report.

The 18-year-old driver told officers he was making a delivery at 915 Foster Ave. He had instructions to deliver the two extra-large pizzas to the home’s back door, but, as he approached the home he noticed the windows and doors were boarded up and “felt something was wrong,” the report said.

He attempted to turn around and leave when a black male appeared and punched him in the side of the face. Another black male appeared from the rear of the home, stood in front of his vehicle and pointed a “shoulder-mounted firearm” at him while he sat in the car.

The delivery driver told police he recognized the second male as a 16-year-old he’d attended Elyria High with.

The driver said he was forced from his vehicle at gunpoint and robbed of $160 to $170, which was a combination of Marco’s money, tips and personal money. The thieves also took his cell phone and then reached into the car and took the two extra-large pizzas. He said the man he recognized from school pointed the gun at him the entire time the other man took the items.

The driver said he got into his vehicle and drove back to Marco’s Pizza on West Ridge Road and reported the holdup to his manager.

The driver positively identified the suspect he knew from school when shown a photo by police. The unknown thief was described as 5-foot-2 to 5-foot-6, slender and 120 to 140 pounds wearing a whitish zip-up hooded sweatshirt with a blue and yellow splatter design.
