Police find drinking after hours in Elyria bar

ELYRIA — An early-morning investigation of a bar serving alcohol after hours could lead to charges being filed against the establishment, police said.

Elyria police said officers found at least 16 people inside the T&A Grill at 801 Foster Ave. at 2:40 a.m. Saturday, 10 minutes after the bar’s 2:30 a.m. closing time. At least four people had drinks in their hands, but all four set the drinks down on the bar and headed for the exit when officers walked in, reports said.

Police talked with two men who admitted they were still drinking at the time.

An owner-bartender told police he had tried to get customers to leave the bar, but reports said that did not appear to be the case from what they observed.

Reports of the incident were to be sent to the city prosecutor’s office for filing of possible charges, and to the Ohio Department of Liquor Control, which oversees licensing for all bars in the state.
