Teen stabs woman in abdomen with pocket knife

NEW LONDON — A 16-year-old girl with Lorain County ties is appearing in court today on charges of felonious assault and unruly juvenile after she stabbed a New London woman in the abdomen Saturday night.

According to New London police Chief Mike Marko, Kori L. Lewis was stabbed about 7:30 p.m. after an ongoing feud with the teen escalated.

The suspect has previously lived with her mother in Elyria and her grandparents in Wellington, according to Marko. He said it appeared her mother still has custody, but that the teen may have been staying with her father in New London.

The teen used a pocket knife with a 2½-inch blade, Marko said. He said Lewis’ injuries were serious enough that she had to have surgery, but that he expected she’d be OK and could be released from Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk tomorrow. Lewis’ condition wasn’t immediately available from the hospital.

Marko said the ongoing feud between the pair stems from the teen’s allegations Lewis’ boyfriend sexually assaulted her several months ago. He said charges are pending against the boyfriend.
