Severe thunderstorm watch in effect until 8 p.m.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 8 p.m. tonight for much of northern Ohio, including Lorain and Medina counties.

According to the National Weather Service, there is a slight risk for severe thunderstorms this afternoon and early tonight. The risk will begin about mid to late afternoon in northwest Ohio and will spread southeast during the evening.

Damaging winds will be the primary threat from any severe storms. The threat will diminish by midnight for most areas. Weaker thunderstorms are possible after that.
