Crushers lose 3-0 to Washington, Pa., Wild Things
WASHINGTON, Pa. — Lake Erie starting pitcher Josh Roberts has yet to have a bad outing this season, yet he was handed his second loss of the season Thursday night as the Crushers were beaten 3-0 by the Washington Wild Things.
Roberts pitched 7 2/3 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, walking a pair and striking out four. He’s now 7-2 with a 2.10 ERA.
Roberts had been leading the Frontier League in ERA with a 1.96 going into Thursday’s game, but he now sits behind Traverse City’s Jonny Bravo (2.09).
The Crushers (30-31) threatened in the first when Jodam Rivera reached on a two-base error and then tried to score on Eddie Tisdale’s single. But Wild Things catcher Jared Dyer blocked the plate and right fielder Mark McGonigle was able to gun Rivera down to end the threat.
Washington finally broke through in the fifth when Luis Rivera singled in Jon Kourie. The Wild Things added a pair of insurance runs in the eighth when Kourie hit a bases-loaded single that skipped over second baseman Drew Saylor’s glove.
