Observations from Browns training camp

BEREA — Rookie cornerback Joe Haden practiced for the first time after signing his contract and worked with the second-team defense. He looked good in individual drills and got a pair of compliments for his special teams work.

** The Browns practiced once, in pads.

** Second-year linebacker David Veikune joined the injured who didn’t practice. The injury wasn’t disclosed.

** Rookie Shawn Lauvao worked with the starters at right guard. He made a good trap block on a run by Jerome Harrison, but was beat in pass protection later in the series.

** Running back Peyton Hillis  had a pair of long pickups on screens from Seneca Wallace in the two-minute drill. After Jake Delhomme’s drive stalled, Wallace led the offense to a winning field goal.

** Delhomme connected earlier with Joshua Cribbs, who beat Sheldon Brown, for a good gain in the red zone.

** DeAngelo Smith went to the ground to intercept a Wallace pass.

** Phil Dawson was 7-for-7 on field goals to end practice.

** The players ran a series of sprints after practice.
