Cavaliers to reveal new uniforms today

CLEVELAND — The NBA season doesn’t begin until late October, but the Cavaliers will tip off their 2010-2011 marketing campaign today.

Team broadcasters Austin Carr and Campy Russell will unveil Cleveland’s new uniforms in a 5:30 p.m. ceremony at Cadillac Ranch, which is located downtown at 200 Euclid Avenue.

Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert announced the event exclusively through his Twitter account, offering free beverages and snacks, as well as prizes to those in attendance. The tech-savvy entrepreneur also promised T-shirts with the jersey design to the first 100 people through the doors.

Cleveland’s new uniform features a deeper wine-and-gold color scheme than the hues it wore for the last seven seasons — coincidentally spanning the entire career of LeBron James with the team.

The Cavaliers are one of four NBA franchises to change their insignia this summer, joining Golden State, Orlando and Utah. Like Cleveland, the Jazz merely modified its colors while keeping the same logo design.

As part of the festivities, the Cavaliers are also releasing six partial season-ticket plans, all of which include seats to their October 27 home opener against the Boston Celtics.

Two 21-game packages and four 11-game packages are available, starting at $609 and $319, respectively, by calling 1-800-820-CAVS. Full season-ticket plans and group tickets are already on sale.

Individual game tickets are expected to go on sale in early September.

Samuels signed

The Cavs signed Samardo Samuels, a 6-foot-9, 260-pound forward out of Louisville.

Samuels led the Cardinals in scoring (15.3) and rebounding (7.0) as a sophomore before declaring for the 2010 NBA Draft.
He played in five games for the Bulls in the NBA Summer League, averaging 12.6 points.
