Alyson Sweany, 22, was arrested today on a secret indictment handed down Thursday by a county grand jury.
The indictment said that Sweany endangered a child on March 12, the same day that Jesse was flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.
Jesse, 3, was ultimately removed from life support a few days later and died.
It was the second time that Jesse was taken to MetroHealth with serious injuries. He was hospitalized in January 2009 after he was scalded while being given a bath by Peter Jones, Sweany’s boyfriend.
Jones, 23, had pleaded guilty to child endangering charges in connection with the scalding and was awaiting sentencing when Jesse died. He hanged himself inside his parents’ Amherst home on June 15, just days before his rescheduled sentencing hearing.
Jones’ attorney, Donald Tittle, has said that Jesse was accidentally injured a few days before he was taken to the hospital for his most recent injuries. He has said the boy was injured while climb-ing on a bookcase in the Jones’ home, but didn’t show any signs of being hurt.
It wasn’t until a few days later, Tittle has said, that the family noticed that Jesse was acting off and took him for medical treatment.
Sweany is already facing misdemeanor disturbing the peace and disorderly conduct by intoxica-tion charges stemming from a loud argument with Jones on May 15. She is due back in Oberlin Municipal Court on those charges Sept. 23.
