BEREA — Browns coach Eric Mangini said Monday afternoon that quarterback Jake Delhomme will undergo medical tests on his right ankle in the next couple of days.
Delhomme limped periodically throughout the second half Sunday in a 17-14 loss. He was asked about the ankle after the game.
“It got a little stiff on me for some reason, but that’s no excuse,” he said. “It’s fine.”
Delhomme’s Browns debut started well but finished poorly. He went 20-for-37 for 227 yards, a touchdown, two interceptions and a 59.2 rating.
The Browns blew a 14-3 lead after the first interception. Mangini said Delhomme should’ve thrown the ball away on Ronde Barber’s pick that was returned 64 yards and set up a Tampa Bay touchdown. But he also blamed the protection and a bad pass route for contributing to the interception.
