Three go to hospital after Route 57 crash

ELYRIA – A crash Thursday night around 10:30 p.m. that blocked traffic on northbound state Route 57 was caused when a 1998 Dodge Caravan ran a red light at Taylor Street and smashed into a 1993 Ford Explorer that was turning north onto state Route 57, according to an Elyria police report.

The southbound Caravan, driven by 45-year-old Jeffrey Lustek of Elyria, was weaving in and out of traffic before it ran the light and hit the Explorer, which was driven by 17-year-old Richard Jones II, also of Elyria.

The Explorer rolled onto its left side, while the Caravan continued moving before running off the road about 100 feet south of Taylor Street and striking a light pole. The Caravan then crossed the median and came to a stop around 300 feet south of Taylor Street on state Route 57 northbound.

Lustek was taken to EMH Regional Medical Center, where he refused a blood test. He was no longer listed as a patient at the hospital Saturday.

Jones and his passenger, 16-year-old Devan Price, were also taken to EMH by their parents to get checked out, according to the police report.

No charges were listed on the report.
