Wellington business owner killed in snowmobile accident

WELLINGTON — A local business owner was killed last night in a snowmobile accident in his neighbor’s back yard.

Jeff Garn, 42, was owner of North Coast Wireless Communications in downtown Wellington.

Wellington Police Chief Steve Rollins said police were called to 696 Meadow Lane about 7:30 p.m. Rollins said Garn lived at 688 Meadown Lane.

LifeFlight was called in, but Rollins didn’t know where Garn died or whether he was flown out.

Rollins said Garn struck a culvert or a pipe, lost control and was thrown into a tree. He said Garn struck the tree across his upper abdomen.

Rollins, who himself has owned a snowmobile, said it is possible, but more difficult, to ride when there isn’t snow on the ground.

“They’re harder to steer,” Rollins said.

He said the snowmobile, a 2011 Yamaha, was brand-new and had only one mile on it.

“He was probably itching to try it out,” Rollins said. “It’s a tragedy.”
