The board of directors of the Lorain County Printing & PublishingCo. appointed Martin as its president and CEO Thursday. Hudnutt was president of the company until his death Nov. 23.
Martin will manage the day-to-day business of the company.
In addition to publishing The Chronicle, the company is also sole owner of Medina County Publications Inc., which publishes The Gazette; Elyria-Lorain Broadcasting Co., which operates WEOL 930-AM, WNWV 107.3-FM, WKFM 96.1-FM, WKLR 95.3-FM and WKLR 1510-AM; and CHRON-TEL Inc., which is partners with Photo Journal Inc. in ownership of four weekly newspapers: Westlife, the Vermilion Photojournal, the North Ridgeville Press and The Press, which serves Avon, Avon Lake, Sheffield and Sheffield Lake.
The board of Lorain County Printing & Publishing also appointed George D.Hudnutt, who is publisher of The Gazette and president of the radio company, as chairman of the board of directors. Hudnutt is the brother of the late A. Cooper Hudnutt.
The board appointed William D. Hudnutt, the company’s Internet publisher, to succeed his father, A. Cooper Hudnutt, as a member of the board.
It appointed Mark E. Brown, accounting manager at The Chronicle, as secretary and treasurer of the company.
Martin, an independent consultant, has been working with the company since 2001.
He served as vice president of production operations at Thomson Newspapers with North American responsibility, general manager of operations at Park Newspapers and executive vice president and chief operating officer of the eastern division of Community Newspaper Holdings Inc. before consulting for family and group-owned newspapers throughout the United States and Canada.
