Browns lead 7-0 after 1st quarter

CINCINNATI – The Browns led the Bengals 7-0 after the first quarter, thanks to a creative play call by coordinator Brian Daboll.

Rookie quarterback Colt McCoy hit tight end Robert Royal for the 20-yard touchdown as he made a diving catch. He ran straight down the left side and McCoy made a perfect throw.

The play was run out of a formation rarely, if ever, seen in the NFL. Tackles John St. Clair and Joe Thomas were split outside the hashes, leaving just three linemen in front of McCoy. The formation caught the Bengals off-guard.

Cincinnati reached the Cleveland 28-yard line but failed on fourth down rather than kicking a field goal.

Bengals receiver Terrell Owens left the game with a knee injury.
