Trial begins for Elyria school’s ex-financier

ELYRIA — The trial of the former finance director at the Linden School in Elyria on charges she stole about $40,000 from the school began Wednesday.

Jacquelyn Morales, 40, faces two counts of theft for allegedly stealing the money between January 2007 and August 2008, when she left the school.

According to Elyria police, Morales used the money to buy personal items, pay for a hotel room in Orlando, Fla., and helped relatives avoid paying tuition at the private school.

Morales, who has denied wrongdoing, was working as a clerk for Lorain County Juvenile Court when she was arrested in 2009. She was taken into custody while she was working at the Lorain County Justice Center.

The trial resumes today.
