WELLINGTON TWP. — Police said a driver who failed to obey a stop sign caused a two-car crash at state Route 18 and West Road about 3:10 p.m. Thursday.

Eleanor L. Gnandt, 84, of Wellington, was northbound on West Road when she failed to stop her Ford Focus, which collided with an eastbound Mazda on Route 18 driven by Beth Borthwick, 31, of Wellington, according to a news release from Lt. Travis Hughes of the Ohio Highway Patrol’s Elyria post. Borthwick broke her femur and hip while Gnandt injured her hip.

A 5-year-old child in Borthwick’s car had a chest injury and a 1-year-old child suffered a concussion. Both drivers and the children were flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.
