Crushers end losing streak in Illinois

ROCKFORD, Ill. — Lake Erie (8-17) tied the game vs. Rockford in the sixth, then scored three times in the eighth to put away a 7-3 win, ending a franchise-record seven-game losing streak.

Joel Collins’ two-run homer led the Crushers’ 11 hits. Eight of the starting nine hit safely with with six players reaching base multiple times. Zac Messer went 2-for-2 with a pair of singles and two walks. Kellen Kulbacki also hit safely twice, going 2-for-5 with a homer and two RBIs. Scott Houin went 2-for-5 with a double and a single.

Kelyn Schellenberg (1-0) earned his first professional victory, going 21⁄3 inning of scoreless relief. Jairo Cuevas started and worked four innings in his Lake Erie debut, allowing three runs on four hits. Travis Risser tossed 22⁄3 scoreless innings out of the bullpen in his second relief outing of the season.
