Clifford H. Scheidler

flag4natlguardClifford H. Scheidler, 78, of Elyria, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at his home, following a 22 year battle with cancer. He was born October 29, 1932 in Elyria, and was a lifelong Elyria/North Ridgeville resident.

Cliff was a 1950 North Ridgeville High School graduate, He attended St. Gregory’s College in Cincinnati and graduated from Borromeo College in Wickliffe in 1956. He received a Master of Arts degree from the University of Notre Dame in 1962. In 1957, he joined the staff at Elyria Catholic High School and taught there until moving on to the Central Office of the Cleveland Catholic Diocese as supervisor and then director of government services. Following that, he earned his certification in guidance counseling from John Carroll University and joined the staff of the Elyria Public Schools as a guidance counselor at Eastern Heights Junior High School and later at Northwood Junior High School. He was also a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Elyria, and served with United States National Guard.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Charlotte (nee  Glinka); daughters, Carolyn (Craig) Black of North Royalton and Catherine (Michael) Jannusch of Chicago, Illinois; grandchildren, Abigail, Jonathan, Eloise, and Amelia; sisters, Lois Woodard of Erie, Pensylvania, Terri (Doug) Roof of Brecksville, Margie (Robert) Grguric of The Villages, Florida, and Martha (Robert) Vagi of Broadview Heights; brothers, Bernard (Gloria) of Stow, Jerome (Marilyn) of Amherst, and Dale (Beverly) of Elyria.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Christine Scheidler in 1996; and his parents, Arthur and Hilda Scheidler.

The family will receive friends Sunday, July 10, 2011, from 2 until 5 P.M., at the Laubenthal-Mercado Funeral Home, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd. (at State Rt. 57), Elyria. 440-322-4626. Additional visitation will be Monday, July 11, 2011, from 10 A.M., until the time of a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 A.M., at St. Jude Church, 590 Poplar St., Elyria. The Reverend Allan R. Laubenthal and The Reverend Frank P. Kosem, Pastor of St. Jude Church, will Con-Celebrate the Mass. Private entombment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
